Mars, Pluto, and the Powerful Astrology of Late April 2025
Explosive shifts, heart-centered awakenings, and destiny-defining alignments—how the final days of April set the tone for transformation.
The last two weeks of April are extremely charged, potentially volatile, and probably one of the most important times of the year—one of the few most important times of the year—2025. After three and a half months of being retrograde in the water sign of Cancer, Mars is finally entering back into the sign of Leo—the fire sign of the open heart, generosity, and playfulness.
Leo has also been assigned the archetype of the royal one, the leader, the shining one, or the one who loves the limelight. But Leo is fire—and after all this water (which we’re still dealing with), this is a big shift. Mercury just went into Aries on April 16—yesterday and today. But Mars... Mars has not been in a fire sign for quite some time. I think this is going to be a relief for many of us.
However, things will intensify over the upcoming days, and this energy will reach its peak on April 25th, 26th, and 27th, when Mars opposes Pluto at three degrees of Aquarius. Before that, the Sun enters Taurus on April 19 and will form what we call a T-square to the Mars–Pluto opposition. Mars will be in the early degrees of Leo, and Pluto will be in the early degrees of Aquarius. Mars opposite Pluto is volatile, explosive, willful, and aggressive.
This is a polarization between assertiveness (Mars) and the unconscious (Pluto)—the deep psyche, the underworld, shadow material, and repressed energies coming to the surface. Pluto demands that we get real, that we face the truth and tell the truth. Because if we don’t, Pluto takes care of it for us—through events and circumstances that literally initiate us into that truth.
This will happen uniquely for each individual depending on how this aspect plays out in their natal chart. Some people will feel it more strongly than others. The T-square is a dynamic configuration in astrology—an aspect where one planet squares two others and becomes the focal point. With the Sun entering the Earth sign of Taurus and squaring both Mars and Pluto, the emphasis is on the Sun archetype: vitality, our life force, our mission, our soul purpose, our individuality—how we want to express ourselves, what we value, and what’s being illuminated.
The Sun in your birth chart rules a specific house. Putting all these pieces together really requires a full reading, but it tells the story of how this energy will play out for you personally. On the collective stage, we can expect volatility in various forms. So if nothing seems to be happening in your own life, observe what’s unfolding with friends, loved ones, and in the wider world.
It’s something to be mindful of. Simply having self-awareness that this is happening makes it more manageable.
Another major configuration coming up: Saturn—the planet of discipline, commitment, focus, hard work, perseverance, contraction, endings, and sometimes loneliness or a sense of failure—will conjoin the North Node at 26° Pisces on April 21, 2025.
This is the same degree where Mercury went direct on April 7, so it’s a powerful point. The North Node speaks to our destiny—what’s calling us forward, what’s pulling us toward our evolution. Venus is still in Pisces, a water sign, adding sensitivity, imagination, and creative energy to the mix.
Venus represents the heart, love, attraction, finances, beauty, and what we value. Interestingly, the day after Venus joins the North Node, it will also conjoin Saturn at 27° Pisces on April 25.
Now, while Venus conjunct Saturn is sometimes interpreted as lonely, depressing, or melancholic, it can also bring rewards, especially for something you’ve put your heart into, something you’ve worked hard on and persevered with. There’s pride in that. In Pisces, this may be a dream, a creative project, or a vision.
Depending on where this falls in your birth chart, it tells another story: what you’re committing to, what you're getting serious about, what’s becoming more real, and what you want to bring into form.
All of this is building in the second half of April—something to reflect on. How is this manifesting for you? Can you feel this energy?
Venus will finally leave Pisces and re-enter Aries (it’s been retrograde). Venus stationed direct recently on April 13 at 24° Pisces, and it will move into 0° Aries on April 30. It will then conjoin Neptune in Aries, which I’ll discuss later.
Going back to April 27—when Mars in Leo opposes Pluto in Aquarius, we’ll also have a New Moon at 7° Taurus that same day. A new beginning, a seed moment.
This also activates the Mars–Pluto opposition. The blessing here—the positive take—is that this is the third Mars–Pluto opposition we've had, due to Mars' retrograde cycle. Now that Mars is direct, this will be the final one in this series for a while.
Afterward, Mars enters Leo and will trine Neptune, forming a harmonious aspect of flow and inspired action. I feel this will soften the volatility of the Mars–Pluto dynamic somewhat, giving us an opening—something to consider and reflect on.
So be mindful—it’s an intense time, almost two weeks of powerful energy. I’ll be back soon to discuss more of the upcoming planetary aspects.
